Okay so I tried to order pastéis for the district and accidentally asked for "twelve grandmothers" instead of "twelve pastries." The lady at the counter could NOT stop laughing. Lesson learned: vovó ≠ pastel. Other than that — we taught the Ferreira family twice this week and they came to church on Sunday!

Tuesday night we visited Irmã Rosa, who's been a member for 50 years. She fed us way too much food and told us stories about the missionaries who taught her in 1976. Halfway through I realized I understood every word — in Portuguese. Six months ago I couldn't order food. It hit me how much can change when you just keep showing up.
